7 Reasons Prestwick Country Club Is Perfect …

It’s no surprise.  Prestwick Country Club is always rated in the Top 50 courses in South Carolina by the Golf Course Ratings Panel.

We found out for ourselves.  You should too.  We highly recommend at least one day at this Myrtle Beach golf course that is on the Myrtle Beach Golf Trail.

Here are 7 reasons.

Is This The Firth of Forth?

First, Prestwick’s Scottish feel.  You will feel like you stepped on a links near the Firth of Forth.  And like the Prestwick in Scotland, the Myrtle Beach version has similar deep pot bunkers and large, fast greens.

Joe Carson and Kathy Welte, two Jetsetters, tried Prestwick for the first time. They agreed the course is tough.  Like in Scotland, there is a lot of risk reward here.  Placing your shots in the right spot will lead to some lower scores.

Pleasing to the Eye

Second reason, Prestwick’s beauty.  Kathy admitted the flowers, trees, and critters could be distracting for the high-handicap vacation golfers.  She admitted to talking to some of the friendly squirrels.  Trust us, the views are great and will remind you of many other great spots like…

Prestwick Has Pinehurst Feel

Third reason is Pinehurst.  Yes, there are parts of Prestwick that remind you of the famous, not too far away, Pinehurst No. 2.  Take a look at some views, namely the 12th hole, and it looks like the tree-lined gem that has been home to so many majors.

Take Me Further South, No Wait!

Fourth reason: Kiawah Island.  Now that might seem contradictory to Pinehurst.  One is inland and the other is on the ocean.  Prestwick does both. It runs near the ocean and the intra-coastal waterway giving you views similar to Kiawah Island in nearby Charleston or even Harbour Town in Hilton Head.

Prestwick to Dye For

Fifth Reason is – wait for it – TPC Sawgrass, home to the Players Championship. The Prestwick 9th hole, with water down the left side, transports you down to the Jacksonville area and forces you to play the tough, tight, finishing 18th hole at Sawgrass.

Of course, Prestwick, like Sawgrass, is a Pete Dye and PB Dye design.  And once you play Prestwick’s par 3 13th hole, you will see another resemblance to Sawgrass’ famous 17th island green.  Although the Prestwick 13th is not totally surrounded by water.

But it is tough. You need to hit it on the green because chipping on this slippery surface is tricky.

Make Sure You Have Brad Faxon with you

Six, Prestwick’s greens.  The putting surfaces here are fast.  Joe, who is a 10 handicap, said he had 6-foot tap-ins all day.  Reading the greens were tough for speed and movement.  Head Pro Jason Corneau concurred and suggests that you spend more time on the practice greens than the tees.

Location, Location, Location

Seven, perfect to start or end a golf getaway.  Prestwick is right in the heart of Myrtle Beach.  So, you are near the Myrtle Beach International Airport.  You can easily land and hit the course in a matter of an hour.  Or, if you want to get that one last round in before you jet off, you can arrange that as well.

The best way to do it is with the Myrtle Beach Golf Trail.  You can book everything right there: your tee times; your hotels; and even your restaurants that are plentiful in the area.

Plus, Prestwick could be the perfect hub for your next stay and play in Myrtle Beach since it is central to the many courses you will also way to play on the Myrtle Beach Golf Trail.
