We both brought in air fryers into our homes at the start of Covid.
We’re sure many of you did as well. If you haven’t yet, you probably will after reading this – and watching some of our recipes here.
There are many great brands of Air Fryers on the market. We would suggest examining each brand for what your needs are: where will you use it; what range of food types will you be cooking.
There are so many reasons why air fryers are so popular?
- Healthier Cooking: Air fryers use hot air to cook food, giving you a crispy texture — with significantly less oil — compared to traditional frying. You decrease fat in-take without sacrificing flavor or crunch.
- Convenience: They’re easy to use and faster than ovens. Set the temperature and time, and you’re good to go. Plus, there’s no pre-heating.
- Versatility: Air fryers cook a wide range of dishes from vegetables and seafood to baked goods and even reheating leftovers. Some models even come with additional functions like roasting, grilling, and baking.
- Easy Cleanup: Many air fryer parts are dishwasher-safe, making cleanup a breeze. The non-stick surfaces also reduce clean-up after cooking.
- Compact Size: Air fryers are compact making them a practical choice for small kitchens. If you’re thinking about RVing then at least one air fryer makes sense.
- Energy Efficiency: They typically use less energy than ovens, which can be a plus for both your electric bill and the environment.
- Covid: Yes, the COVID-19 pandemic definitely played a significant role in the surge of air fryer popularity. With lockdowns and restrictions in place, more people were cooking at home and looking for convenient, healthier ways to prepare meals. The air fryer, with its promise of crispy fried food using less oil, became a go-to appliance for many households.
It’s interesting to see how a global event like the pandemic can influence kitchen trends.
And it continues. Air fryers have inspired some creative culinary experiments! How about:
- Hard-Boiled Eggs
- Avocado Fries
- Bacon-Wrapped Pickles
- S’mores
- Fruit Chips
- Cottage Cheese Bites
- Air-Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
