We love Irish humor and phrases.

One favorite is malarkey.  To the Irish it means meaningless or insincere talk, nonsense, or foolishness.

Malarkey Upside Down

But at Lionfish Restaurant in Delray Beach, Florida we found someone who makes the definition of Malarkey “Ionradh” — which in Gaelic means turning it on its head. (Pronounce it “IN-ruh”.)

She is Katie Malarkey. And she is a bartender at Lionfish Restaurant.

We were fortunate enough to hit Lionfish during happy hour. So, we sat at the bar to get a drink, and to have our meal. Katie was there overseeing her domain.

As we usually do, we ask a lot of questions of the bartender and wait staff.

Food and Beverage Brilliance

And many times, we find very knowledgeable employees.

We’ve noticed in the growing number of American food towns we explore, the culinary and spirits knowledge has skyrocketed over the last decade.

In another segment, we commented on the difference between hospitality workers in Los Angeles, in particular Hollywood, who were more involved in trying to become actors, as compared to the workers in Las Vegas, who are dedicated to the restaurant and hospitality industry to make the experience for customers so much more enjoyable.

Among them is Katie Malarkey. She is a gem. She belongs in front of a camera, talking about food, wine, and mixology.

Watch below and you will see her knowledge and presentation of our meal and drinks. It was riveting.

It was also easy for us. She literally outlined the segment for us.

Plus, she has a great sense of humor to go with her enthusiasm for what she does.

She also knows how to change things up and make them interesting. Notice we were at Lionfish, but what she recommended for us was unexpected — and perfect.

Take a look at our segment below. And when you get to Delray, make sure you go to Lionfish for some knowledgeable Malarkey — Katie Malarkey.
