Three Jetsetters just did.
OK, they didn’t actually go out drinking with Caitlin.
But they had plenty of fun thanks to Caitlin. And they shared the experience with us.
Julie Sande and her two recent college hoop daughters – Rose and Lauren – spent the perfect girls weekend flying from North Carolina to Indianapolis to see an Indiana Fever game – and so much more.
They witnessed sports history as Caitlin Clark, and the Indiana Fever are rewriting sports history and propelling women’s basketball like never before. This is becoming a Bucket List item.
This game was even bigger for them since The Fever were playing the Dallas Wings with their new superstar, the first overall draft pick Paige Bueckers. Caitlin and The Fever won 103-83 making the hometown crowd that much more fired up.
“This was a chance of a lifetime for my girls and I to spend a girls weekend celebrating women’s sports!!” Julie, a former college softball player herself, said. “Caitlin put women’s basketball back in the spotlight where almost everybody recognizes her! Her records and accomplishments alone put her way up there! Even men are recognizing her!”
So, guys, you can go too!
Whole Family Trip
As you will see, this isn’t just a girls trip—it’s a family-friendly itinerary that blends sports, culture, and curiosity.
Here’s how they did it – along with other suggestions.
- Game Tickets: They ordered tickets at Gainbridge Fieldhouse – way ahead of time. You can get some deals at StubHub. You need tickets before you go since Fever Games are selling out.
- Book A Hotel: We recommend Marriott. Julie said, “We stayed at the Downtown Marriott because it was only a few blocks from the fieldhouse. We were limited to where we could go because we didn’t have a car.” Plus, if you stay downtown the many things they did and hit were all within walking distance or a short Uber ride. Another Marriott choice is the nearby Fairfield Inn & Suites.
- Book Your Flight: They flew from Raleigh, NC to Indianapolis. Again, book as early as you can since many other fans are making their way to Indy for these games. The best place for flights is Booking.com.
- Fun Shirt or Jersey: You have to be in the spirit, so try Life is Good.
Once you are there, you are mesmerized. Granted, you’re witnessing sports history. And as Julie, Rose, and Lauren showed us being at the game was electrifying.
Planning and Timing
Remember, the WNBA regular season begins in mid-May and ends in mid-September, then the playoffs begin.
So, you could also hit the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament in March, an NFL game with the Indianapolis Colts, or an NBA game with the Indiana Pacers who went to the NBA Finals this past year. And don’t forget the Indianapolis 500 around Memorial Day Grab your tickets here.
And as Julie, Rose, and Lauren showed us, Indianapolis offers so much more to do no matter which event you attend. Check out all these Indy attractions.
