I am receiving lots of political donation requests on texts — like this one.
This one came One of them just came from the Trump National Committee and Guy Reschenthaler, a Republican U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District. He is a Navy veteran, attorney, and former state senator.
The political pitch to get GOP donors has a ton of misinformation.
Here’s what my fact checking found.
Feel free to factcheck this too. And also, send me donation requests you get from any party or organization that we can factcheck.
Claim: “Democrats opened our borders and spent millions to welcome illegal migrants.”
Verdict: False / Misleading. There is no Democratic policy that “opened the borders.” Border enforcement remained in place under both parties. Claims about Democrats spending “millions to welcome illegal migrants” misrepresent legally required federal spending on migrant processing and humanitarian care.

Claim: “Democrats shut down the government for 43 days to secure healthcare for illegal immigrants.”
Verdict: False No shutdown lasted 43 days. The longest shutdown in U.S. history was 35 days (2018–2019) and centered on border wall funding, not healthcare for undocumented immigrants. Plus, undocumented immigrants are not eligible for federal healthcare programs like Medicaid or ACA insurance.

Factually analysis of “Democrats want free healthcare for undocumented immigrants“.
Claim: “Trump asked legislators to stand for protecting citizens, not illegal aliens… and Democrats didn’t stand.”
Verdict: Mostly True. During Trump’s address, Republicans stood and applauded. Democrats largely remained seated as a coordinated protest. Some Democrats were absent due to boycotts.
Direct sources:
PBS annotated coverage of Trump’s State of the Union shows partisan standing/sitting.
Claim: “Sen. Chris Murphy said: ‘The people we care about most, the undocumented Americans.’”
Verdict: True (with context) Murphy did use the phrase “undocumented Americans.” He was discussing immigration reform strategy—not saying undocumented immigrants matter more than citizens.
Direct sources: • PolitiFact explainer on the term “undocumented American”.
Claim: “Democrats openly state they do not care about American citizens.”
Verdict: Unsupported. No evidence any Democratic official has stated this. This is rhetorical framing, not a factual claim.

Claim: “Democrats want to put citizens’ needs behind undocumented immigrants.”
Verdict: Misleading. Democratic policy platforms include: Border security; Legal immigration pathways; and Opposition to certain enforcement tactics. None state that undocumented immigrants should be prioritized over citizens.
