Maui: Foodie Delight

Sure, Maui has great beaches, views, and golf courses.

Over the years, we’ve brought you to places that are must-sees, serenity comforts, and even places you need to bring the kids.

But over the past few decades, and we will cover it here, the Valley Isle of Hawaii (as Maui is called) has become a mighty culinary destination.

And for a lot of good reasons

Farm To Table

First, Maui is fertile.  The land is lush which produces an abundance of fruits and vegetables.  Hawaii, we have told you in other segments, is one of the founders of the Farm To Table movement that has spread all over.

One restaurant we hit often is Monkey Pod Kitchen which always has something creative with local produce.

Its founder Chef Peter Merriman who is a force for the farm to table cuisine which is practiced each day at Monkey Pod.

Fish Feasts

Second, Maui has the Pacific.  Freshly caught seafood is a must for your dining.  The sushi is out of this world. Places like Japengo at the Maui Hyatt will be a spot you will hit often.  Plus, Maui has so many exotic catches like Badagucci which is a deep water fish you can’t get anywhere else.  Ask for it when you arrive at your restaurant or call some restaurants ahead of time.

But Maui also has great beef and pork dishes.

Superstar Chefs

Third, so many world-renown chefs have moved to Maui and opened new establishments.

And many of them have brought traditional culinary styles and blended them with the Hawaiian cooking styles.

So yes, you want Italian; they have it – in abundance.

Besides Peter Merriman, you should try Moku Roots in Lahaina where Co-owner Alexa Caskey harvests menu ingredients from her own farm down the road in Mala ‘Akala.

And there are so many more.

Festival Time

Fourth, Maui is home to many food and wine festivals each year – that you should look for. Granted, the wines produced in Hawaii are made from sweet grapes or fruit.  Still, some of the wines are produced with European style grapes that are imported.

That’s why we had such an easy time to bring you some of the best of the Maui High Life Eats.

Watch our segment here as we take you from the gorgeous coast of Kaanapali on the island’s north-west side to Front Street in Lahaina to Wailea on the legendary southwestern coast of Maui.

Grab a Mai tai first then watch and get hungry.  You will soon be booking a trip or prepping a dinner with a Maui twist.  Enjoy.
